Is it a good way to learn guitar overall? I can't really say because I'm two years in and don't get to see what it's like to learn from scratch.

There's even a Band in a Box type feature called 'Sessions' where you can set your instruments, music style, and key, and which adjusts how soft or hard it plays along with you. I like the way the game changes our tone to fit over the parts of songs your playing, going from clean to distorted, or adding effects and mixes you into the whole piece. Something which is sorely missed for me at this time. The second way I believe it is of benefit is it's a good enough, for now, substitute for being in a band. The whole concept of 'just one more go' keeping me playing past pain barriers and not getting 100%s sparking my determination to complete a song. Seeing progression bars, and scores, and points is tapping right into my reward centres. I plug the guitar into the PlayStation and I can play all day. Rocksmith, I feel, has completely hijacked my state of flow from video games and transposed it to guitar. Some of the days I can't play I'd start playing games and then feel bad for getting nothing done. This annoyance that I'm not always at my best is generally compounded further by the fact I can play video games all day in a persistent state of flow. I'd even get days where I can't bring myself to pick it up. When it would come I would be really locked into what I'm doing, but mostly I'd have to really force myself to play, and on some other days I'd play for 10 or 20 minutes then just feel like I can't be arsed. It's something that has been a major pain for me since I started is that these flow states only come occasionally when playing guitar. The first is that it's helping me get into the 'zone', or what some now call a 'state of flow' with guitar. I'm not sure how this game is viewed here, whether it's majorly frowned upon or whatever, but in the last two and a half weeks I've had it I've found it very beneficial to me in two very important ways.
